Learning from our friends in Egypt
We have linked up with Mr. Markey's Year 6 class in Malvern College, Cairo, Egypt.
We have been learning lots about their culture, their hobbies, their Religion and their school.
We have sent some videos and letters to them telling them about our culture also - hurling, gaelic football, Irish dancing, sean nós dancing and Irish traditional music.
We are really enjoying learning about all aspects of their lives and are looking forward to sharing more stories with them over the next few weeks.

An egg-cellent learning experience!
Local hen farmer, Pj Markey, came to visit the school last Friday 13th May and taught us and Mrs Mc Aviney's class all about how his free-range eggs get from farm to fork.
He spoke to the children about the type of hens he has, the type of grain he uses and its ingredients. We looked at some pictures from inside his hen house - the water drinkers, the nest boxes, the belt where the hens lay and the pallets where he puts the eggs when they are taken off the belt.
The children even got to hold some hens and engaged in a Q & A with PJ.
We learned so much, it was an egg-cellent learning experience!

Lego building
We are so lucky to have some Lego sets on loan from Monaghan Education centre at the minute. We have been having lots of fun creating some moving devices.
Marathon Kids Ireland
We are currently participating in Marathon Kids which is an 8 week programme where students run 26.2miles over the course of the 8 weeks. We are taking part in 4 running sessions per week for 8 week. We are also learning about the benefits of sport, and about health and wellbeing.
Past-pupil and Monaghan star gives his gloves away to our Jason!
Lucky Jason Farmer received gloves from local lad and former Scoil Mhuire pupil, Kieran Duffy, at last weekend's Monaghan match against Kildare in Newbridge.
Monaghan were defeated by a strong Kildare side. Jason spoke to some of the team after the match and plucked up the courage to ask fellow Latton man for his gloves. Unfortunately, the match didn't go our way but Jason was a happy boy going home with his new gloves! |

Minecraft Rossmore Park
In a Cross Border Partnership with AmmA, pupils from 3rd/4th and 6th class benefited from a Minecraft trip to Rossmore Park.
They learned about the rich history of Rossmore, from exploring the Castle built in the 1800s, the science behind how coal was used to create coal gas and becoming interior designers decorating a 19th century drawing room.
A huge thank you to Jamie, from AmmA for facilitating a fantastic workshop for all.

Valentine's Poetry
Check out some of the amazing poetry our wonderful class have written.
Mary & Barry
Mary & Barry went to the quarry To fetch a lump of coal Mary said to Barry If we don't marry I'll throw myself in a hole! They had a conversation That was a sensation Now Mary is in a hole. Don't worry about Mary It's just that she's hairy And now in love with a mole! By Charlie Mc Elroy Roses are red, violets are blue
There's no thing I love more than you. But maybe some cheese and garlic bread, Or when a pig flies overhead. Freshly cut grass, or a sirloin steak, or some cookies, freshly baked I love you, it's true But there's nothing I love more than my favourite shoes! By Shane Sullivan Maisie, my Calf
Maisie is my favourite calf She's one and she is very smart Take her for a walk or a trot Even take her over for a jump. Give her her meal, give her a lot Until she is all full up Give her a wash, especially her legs Dry her off, give her a brush Watch her butt, she might buck! I love you Maisie, But not when you're bold! By Molly Cassidy |
Eve
I finally worked up the courage to go the mirror and say "Will you be my Valentine, on this very fine day?" To my utter surprise and shock, She said "Yes!" to me, She also has the same name, Eve McEntee! She loves watching movies, And loves drinking tea, She likes all the same things I do, She's perfect for me! By Eve McEntee Dear Diary,
I have a secret crush When I see him, my heart turns to mush. He's funny and smart, He likes the mart, Oh how hard this is today! Dear Diary, I seen him today! I'm really not ok. It's so hard...Should I write him a Valentine's card? Dear Diary, I wrote a Valentine's card It was short and sweet and nice and neat. He looked me up and down I really thought he would frown but no! He lifted me off my feet, and kissed me twice, on each cheek! I will tell you now, who this mystery guy is When I think of him, my heart gives a fizz I'm hiding in the larder.... My boyfriend is actually my father! By Orla McCabe |
