Parents' Association
Our school is most fortunate in that it benefits from the support of a proactive Parents’ Association. The involvement and engagement of parents and their interest in and attitude towards learning and supporting their children is crucial in fostering the development of the child in a holistic way.
All parents/guardians of children attending Scoil Mhuire are members of the Parent's Association, with a smaller number of parents elected to the Parents' Association Committee each year. We are very lucky to have a very active and enthusiastic committee who are always willing to lend a helping hand for the benefit of all pupils in the school.
The Parents' Association funds its' work through fundraising specifically for the work of the Parents' Association. The Parents' Association Annual Christmas Craft Fayre is their primary fundraiser, which has grown in success each year, and is an event enjoyed by the local community and beyond.

History of the Parents' Association
by Amelia Broggy Duffy, Former Chairperson
Our current group was set up in 2007 in Scoil Mhuire by a group of likeminded parents to help the principal and staff improve facilities in the school for children and to provide assistance to the staff at the school as we can. Since then numerous fund raising events have been organised.
With the great energy and ideas of the many parents on the committee over the years and grateful generosity of the local community in the area, lots of projects for the school have been completed, to make Scoil Mhuire a fun place for learning.
The school levy of €30, which hasn't changed for many years, kindly donated from each family, goes a long way to funding the many projects of the Parents Association over the years.
Our other main fund raising event over the years has been the very enjoyable Christmas Fayre running the early 2000’s. It takes a lot of work to put this fun day together, from the parents on the committee of which we are very grateful to you all giving of your time, on the day we all have great fun meeting everyone that come to support. Along with the great tutelage from their staff all the pupils get to make some amazing crafts which are sold at the Christmas Fayre. Many other stalls are run by the Parents Association team and other stall holders are invited to sell their crafts too.
I'm sure I've forgotten some of the projects over the years so let me know and we can add them to the website.
Here are some of the projects and ongoing events carried out yearly by the PA team
Yearly Events.
The AGM occurs usually in October, where we have refreshments organised and usually a guest speaker. The committee Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer give their reports from the previous year and Ms Gormley gives her school report for the year, it is very interesting to hear all the different programmes and activities going on in the classrooms. It’s also great for new parents to the school as a way of meeting other parents and some school staff that may be present on the night.
Usually in March or April every year, the first Communion class, their families, teacher and priest are invited to gather together for tea, coffee and refreshments after receiving the sacrament of first confession which is a lovely evening for all the children and their families to meet. We usually present the children with a token for their communion and their teacher also receives a token.
In June every year when 6th class have their Graduation, the pupils are presented with scientific calculators from the Parents Association on their journey to secondary school. The pupils of 6th Class provide everyone with a great display of talent, which is enjoyed by everyone who attends. Over the years we've had a disco, cake, or Ice-cream van, insta frame, shop and much more. . . . It all depends on the organising committee over the years.
Other projects carried out by the Parents Association
Rebuilding damaged parts of boundary walls
Resurfacing Tarmac on the basketball court
Installing the memory bench
Reseeding the lawns
Cookery demonstrations at AGMs
Installation of soap dispensers in children’s toilets.
Placing of stencils on junior play area surface egg. Hopscotch, snake games etc.
Erecting of high steel fencing around school boundary to keep the footballs in.
In 2016 we gave half of the funds needed (€6000) to purchase 22 new laptops which included a portable charging unit for them.
We provided €5000 to the school so they could receive a €50,000 Clár grant in 2018 to resurface the junior play ground with a safer rubber surface.
We look forward to many more years of our children enjoying a fun environment for learning, and we thank all you the parents over the years for making all this happen.
